On November 30, a workshop on connecting the vocational training institutions and the communities which they serve, took place at Uzhgorod Vocational College # 20.

The workshop was aimed at acquainting the regional administration, regional working group members, managers of vocational schools and other stakeholders with methodoogies and approaches which are used in Canada and can help vocational training institutions establish and maintain good connections with employers and community and large.

This workshop covered the following topics:

- general overview of the Canadian skills training system and stages of its development;

- governance models used by Canadian vocational institutions;

- practical aspects of developing employer-oriented training programs;

- monitoring the efficiency of training provided by vocational training institutions;

- funding of the vocational training system;

- public/community relations;

During the workshop, the participants also looked at possible projects and initiatives to improve the regional skills training system. Feedback and proposals from participants will be studied further and included into the regional skills training improvement strategy, which will be supported by the project.

The workshop was delivered by Barbara Brenmer (Associate Vice President, Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology) and Glenys Hanson (Director, Institutional Affairs, Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology), who have many years of experience within the Canadian vocational training system.
